The Silver Spoon, 1963–1969
The first chairlift put Tincup Peak nine minutes from the lodge.
The Silver Spoon double chair was dedicated on December 14, 1963, with the high school band playing in the snow. Ray Albright, twenty-one years old, loaded the first chair and kept loading them for thirty-one years. New trails followed: Spoonful, Hard Tack and Miner's Gulch.
Dot Kimura became director of the ski school in 1962 and introduced instructor certification in 1966. At the top of the chair, the warming hut sold chili, hot cocoa and, for a few winters, hot Tang. Night skiing began on December 26, 1969.

“We had six instructors and one rule, which was that nobody went home crying.”
